FAR-INFRARED AND OPTICAL KIDS

We work as a team in the cleanroom, fabricating high-precision far-infrared detector chips for the KIDs team led by Jochem Baselmans and Pieter de Visser. Our process involves carefully handling sensitive materials, operating advanced deposition and lithography equipment, and ensuring quality standards in a controlled environment. Every step is crucial to producing these tiny powerful components that drive the very sensitive telescope technology. KIDS are being further developed in view of the future NASA POEMM balloon mission and the NASA PRIMA mission.

ESA ON-CHIP SPECTROMETER

The fabrication of an on-chip submillimeter spectrometer pixel array is also ongoing with Kenichi Karatsu as the lead. With the expertise obtained by the DESHIMA spectrometer fabrication, a more sophisticated device structure is under construction. The work involves addressing fabrication challenges introduced by new designs and assessing a high yield. The functionality of such a component relies on the precise integration of 14 material layers in one chip, each with a specific role in its performance and enabling its use as an excellent tool for future observations.
