Op maandag 30 september is er een speciale SRON-editie van Astronomy on Tap Leiden. Directeur Michael Wise en aardwetenschapper Jochen Landgraf geven interactieve praatjes over de toekomstige ruimtemissies van SRON en de broeikasgassen die instrument TROPOMI in kaart brengt vanuit de ruimte. Astronomy on Tap is gratis te bezoeken voor mensen van alle leeftijden met elke achtergrond. Aanmelden is niet nodig.
Michael Wise is astronoom en directeur van SRON Netherlands Institute for Space Research. Hij bestudeert clusters van sterrenstelsels en superzware zwarte gaten. Daarvoor gebruikt hij elke soort telescoop die je maar kunt vinden; radio, optisch, infrarood of röntgen. In zijn praatje legt Wise uit hoe SRON bijdraagt aan het ontwikkelen van de telescopen van de toekomst.
Jochen Landgraf is senior wetenschapper bij SRON. Hij bestudeert de samenstelling van de aardatmosfeer aan de hand van data uit de ruimte. In zijn praatje gaat Landgraf in op de recente resultaten van het Nederlandse TROPOMI ruimte-instrument. TROPOMI meet de wereldwijde verdeling van verschillende gassen in de atmosfeer, waaronder koolmonoxide—een belangrijke luchtvervuiler—en methaan—het op één na belangrijkste antropogene broeikasgas.
Tussen de praatjes door is er ruime gelegenheid voor vragen en krijgen de bezoekers een pubquiz voorgeschoteld, samen met alles wat er uit de tap vloeit. Astronomy on Tap wordt afgesloten met de bekendmaking van de winnaars van de quiz en een laatste rondje.

Special SRON edition Astronomy on Tap Leiden
On Monday September 30th there is a special SRON edition of Astronomy on Tap Leiden. Director Michael Wise and earth scientist Jochen Landgraf will give interactive talks about future SRON space missions and the greenhouse gases that instrument TROPOMI maps from space. Astronomy on Tap is free for people of all ages with any background. No registration is required.
Michael Wise is an astronomer and the director of SRON Netherlands Institute for Space Research. He studies clusters of galaxies and supermassive black holes. For this he uses every kind of telescope that you can find; radio, optical, infrared or x-ray. In his talk, Wise will explain how SRON contributes to the development of the telescopes of the future.
Jochen Landgraf is a senior scientist at SRON. He studies the composition of Earth’s atmosphere based on data from space. In his talk, Landgraf will discuss the recent results from the Dutch TROPOMI space instrument. TROPOMI measures the global distribution of various gases in the atmosphere, including carbon monoxide—a major air polluter—and methane—the second most important anthropogenic greenhouse gas.
In between the talks there will be ample opportunity for questions, and visitors are served a pub quiz along with everything that flows out of the tap. Astronomy on Tap ends with the announcement of the winners of the quiz and a final round of drinks.
